The defining trait about most top tier solitaire games has generally been the fact that they come with some really fantastic gameplay. However, Forgotten Tales: Day of the Dead is all that and more. It’s a brilliant solitaire game but alongside that it comes with a pretty fantastic plot as well which revolves around the story of Manuel trying to save his love Maria from the evil spirits that have escaped on the dreaded Day of the Dead.
Although Forgotten Tales: Day of the Dead doesn’t really have any kind of set-in-stone tutorial like most solitaire games, it still does an excellent job of easing newcomers into things because the first few levels double up as sort of tutorial levels. In each of these levels you’ll be taught something new about the game and this is actually a much better way of teaching players the game because it allows them to implement what they learn. The tutorial levels are fairly easy to complete and you’ll be done with them in a matter of minutes which is great.
Forgotten Tales: Day of the Dead is much like most traditional solitaire games but it’s definitely worth mentioning that it seems to have been refined to a point near perfection. The first thing you’ll notice about it is the fact that it functions tremendously at a technical level because you’ll rarely, if ever, run into any form of technical difficulty or glitch that might hinder the experience.
The gameplay formula is utilized by Forgotten Tales: Day of the Dead is the one that a lot of modern solitaire games use which is the higher/lower style of play. Basically, each level comes with a layout of cards spread across the playing area and a deck of cards at the bottom with one card facing up. To play the game you must click on cards on the playing area that are either directly senior or junior to the face up card on the deck. If you successfully do so, the card you clicked will replace the face up card. This process is basically repeated until the entire playing field is cleared of all cards and then you’re given points depending on how fast you completed the level and how efficiently.
There are some great power-ups as well that allow you to get an edge during the more difficult levels such as the shuffle power-up that completely resets that whole layout of a level or the wild card which allows you to turn any card on the field into the face up card.
From a visual standpoint, Forgotten Tales: Day of the Dead is definitely one of the most unique looking solitaire games out there and it probably owes this to its overall setting that is based on the Day of the Dead which is basically considered the day in which the spirits of the dead are allowed to roam the world of the living. The artwork is phenomenal, the sound effects and music are brilliant, the animations are fluid and overall there’s a lot to like in the graphics department.
When you download this game for the first time you’ll be able to play it for 60 minutes on a trial basis after which it can be purchased for its standard price which will lift all time restrictions and allow you to play as long as you want.
