Welcome to the ancient land of Sparta, where glory and contests of skill await you in Spartan Solitaire. Here you can test your skill against the clock and enjoy a fun solitaire game at the same time. With cards based in this historical period it looks good while you play too.
When you first log in there is a quick tutorial level showing you what you need to do, which is match up pairs of cards. They do not need to be the same suit, just the same number or picture value. King and a King for example, and these cards are scattered around in patterns with some face up and most face down.
There is also a draw pile where you can pull cards from, and the match can be made using cards on the board or draw pile. However you can not match 2 cards together in the draw area. The aim of the game is to clear the board within your time limit of all of its cards. If you do not manage to do so in the time you will lose one of your starting 10 lives.
As you make matches there is a bar that fills up, when it has reached its limit you are given a joker card, than can be matched with anything on the board. These jokers only apply to that level and do not carry over. These are very useful as you can make a match when you need to reveal more cards or when it is your last 1 or 2 on the board.
Each level gets progressively harder, with either more cards face down or less time to play. Towards the later levels these are both true making for a fast paced game where your decisions and reactions count for everything.
You begin the game with 10 lives, and each time you fail a level you lose one of them. Unfortunately these lives to not come back by themselves, you will need to spend real money to get them back. You can also spend real money to remove all of the time limits from a level too, but there are no boosters or options to share items in the game.
Spartan Solitaire looks quite nice when you play, the cards are well designed and feel like they belong in this time period. They are also clear and you can see the different numbers and face cards easily. Overall it looks pretty good for such a simple game.
Despite the lack of recharging lives there is still a lot of fun to be found here in Spartan Solitaire, and the clock is not too much of a problem, throw in the earned jokers and it makes for an enjoyable game. Spartan Solitaire Samenvatting
