Solitaire is a game beloved by many even before the onset of the digital or computer age. People passed the days in the old days playing cards with other people or even by themselves. Now, Big Fish recreated that experience in one simple but totally entertaining game – Spyde Solitaire.
This game brings the classic game of Solitaire to your computer, and added a few things to spice things up for you. Now, you have access to power-ups that can make you do stuff to the cards that the old version of Solitaire do not make possible. Moreover, the game does not require any physical cards at all – all you need is your computer.
To play the game, you will need to download a copy from Big Fish using its download manager. The file size is amazingly small, and your connection should finish downloading the file in no time. All you have to do then is to install the game and you’re ready to go.
The rules for playing the game are simple, and you undoubtedly know some of these already. At the beginning, you can play single suit spider solitaire. This means that, when you get a deck of black cards, you don’t have to worry about finding a red card to put underneath a black like when you’re playing a regular solitaire game. In this game, it’s a lot easier so you can concentrate more on putting the cards into their correct order so you can free cells and move the stacks up to the top of the deck.
When you run out of cards, you can deal a new set of nine cards. These cards that you draw will be placed at the bottom of all stacks that you might have built earlier. If you have a stack consisting of 7 until Ace, a new card will go below Ace so you’ll have an additional level of cards to work with in addition to the ones you started with.
That is where the challenge of Spyde Solitaire lies. Now, sometimes you can find a stack in which a card at the bottom is preventing you from moving the ones above it. The game gives you a power-up just for that. Called “Push,” it pushes a card that you pick to the top of the stack so you can free the other cards above it. However, the game allows only one push per deal so you will have to think about when to use the power-up.
There are two other power-ups in the game. One is Free Cell, which moves a King up to the top and freeing the cell that it has been placed so you could put another King in its place.
As you go up the levels in the game, the Artificial Intelligence or AI will automatically adjust the difficulty so it becomes more difficult for you. This is very effective in breaking the monotony that, unfortunately, comes up when playing a solitaire game.
One of the best features of the game is the soundtrack. Spyde Solitaire features a jazzy soundtrack that plays while you work to clear the deck. Because the game requires intense concentration at times, the smooth and soothing tunes can help relax the brain so you can solve the puzzles faster.
The game is free to download at Big Fish, but it comes with a 60-minute trial only. This gives you the chance to fully explore the game before you decide to buy it, but you won’t go wrong with a purchase either.
